About Courselect

The Project

Courselect is part of the uwlive.ca project. Courselect is started because finding information on courses at University of Waterloo is hard. We just don't have the time to look up information across all the systems at the same time.

Courselect is a volunteer project that serves to provide student with the information and tools which are helpful for academic career planning. Cataloguing over 3,000 courses offered at University of Waterloo with almost 7,000 scheduled sections each term has been a fun challenge.

Features are completed on the basis of requests from the UW community. We try to prioritize requests in order to provide the most value to the students in the shortest amount of time.

The textbook price comparison feature initially was not part of the Courselect project, but by popular demand, we're going to expand on it in the future.

The Contributors

The development of Courselect is initiated by an anonymous ECE student who wish to contribute to the UW community and share valuable information which is typically difficult for a lower-year student to uncover. I would also like to thank the number of volunteers who I sat down with to get feedback on the design.

Feedbacks can be provided by using the nice feedback tab on the left of the page or e-mailed directly to feedback@uwlive.ca.

The Roadmap

We'll keep this hush hush. Think of it as an incentive to join the team of volunteers.

FAQ

Q: Why can't you implement feature xyz? I could do it in my sleep!
A: Engineers don't get to sleep during school term.

Q: Dude, this is awesome, why can't the school system look more like this?
A: Changes that will impact the students usually needs to go through layers of approval and that takes time... until then, uwlive will be here.

Q: I want to help, how do I join in on all the fun?
A: Just send us an email with your qualifications and what you'd like to work on. There's data we're dealing with that may be a security and safety concern. Trust me. I've seen the kinds of weird stuff that people might want to do with this data.

Q: iPhone app plz?
A: Send me a Macbook and I'll consider switching off the ThinkPad.

Q: I am a campus organization or a local business and I'd like to advertise on your website
